When I work up this morning we were using 250 Watts of electricity; last night with the microwave, kettle and some lights on we were using 10 times that amount.  We know this now that British Gas finally got round to sending us a smart meter, as part of the latest tariff we're on.  I have been regularly tracking the overall meter readings for a while, and can see the variations with outside temperature, particularly for the gas.  But this is the first time we can get an instantaneous view of our usage.  And just how much the microwave takes (pretty close to its rated 900W it seems).  And what happens if we can a fridge off for a while.

It'll be interesting to see how it changes our behaviour, as I think we've been generally quite good about turning things off when not needed.
