When you work for a church, or are in other kinds of 'full-time Christian work', it can be difficult to find affordable holiday options, particularly in school holidays. That's why we've been keen to have a house in a lovely spot that Christian workers can holiday in, or have a short break. With our 'Shepherds' Rest Retreat House' in Nailsworth we can now provide that.
Situated at the top of Nailsworth on the ridge overlooking Cotswold valleys south of Stroud, the house and garden has gorgeous views, particularly from the upper storey 'deck'. The house is built 'upside down', with the entrance off the drive into the upper storey, with bedrooms and utility room below. There are three double bedrooms (one with twin beds that can be made into a king size), each with generous cupboard and hanging space, and a 'prayer room' with a futon that could also sleep 1 or 2. There's a bathroom, an ensuite, and a separate toilet. Upstairs there's a sitting room with two very large sofas, TV, books, games and DVDs, leading to a bright dining area that seats up to 8. We have a high chair and travel cot for a baby/toddler. The kitchen is well appointed, including a dishwasher. There's also a separate utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and sink. Hot and cold running WiFi too!
From Shepherds' Rest, people enjoying visiting Regency Cheltenham or Bath, alternative Stroud, as well as smaller Cotswold villages, some National Trust properties, and Slimbridge Wildlife centre. And Nailsworth itself is a delightful place with lots of good eateries, some quirky boutiques, charity shops and several supermarkets.
To cover our costs, we ask for a minimum donation of £30 a night, for 2 adults and your children, and £10 a night for any extra adults with their own income. But do still contact us if even that's difficult.
If you're interested in coming, please use the calendar below to check availability. (If it's just showing you a blank space on iOS Safari, then please go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, which sorted the problem for us.) If some dates you'd like are free, and you'd like to make a reservation, then please fill in the form below. Preference will be given to those with school-age children for bookings in school holidays, and those who haven't stayed before. We don't normally consider enquiries more than a year ahead.
